Smart seals

Smarter technological solutions help to gather useable data. Together
with the shipping company Seatrade, Customs Administration takes part in
a public-private pilot featuring Internet of Things applications.
Veltman: "This project concerns what we call smart seals: a device the
size of a car key that is put inside a container. The device registers
changes in for instance the magnetic field, temperature and brightness
of light i.e. whether the doors were opened during a transport. On
departure from the country of origin the data are read out via a
smartphone, a tablet or other device, and are automatically forwarded to
the customs administration in the country of destination. Upon arrival
there, it is simple to check if and when changes occurred."
