Babbler is hunting for NB IoT coverage data

2/26/2019

Comments

We are gathering coverage data using our NB IoT tracking devices.

Why bother?

Because after a couple of years of hype, we decided it was time to gather data ourselves about available NB-IoT coverage. 2019 promises to be the year that NB-IoT gains serious traction. The data from our track and trace solution is the ideal means of seeing how far rollouts are progressing.

How are we gathering data?

Babbler is a fully wireless track and trace solution. 1 year @ 4 gps pings per hour. No shortcuts by sleeping when not in use. Just a next-generation device on a seriously low power network. We put the device in a truck or train, and track it.

The results so far

NB-IoT covers road and rail routes in Germany and the Netherlands. See an example route below

Babbler tracked wirelessly through closed container and cargo hold

11/23/2017

Picture
Our latest test with a Babbler on a container ship was very successful. The Babbler - a low-cost digital seal - was placed in a closed container which was stored in the cargo hold under-deck. The cargo hold is covered by a thick watertight steel hatch which is notoriously difficult for wireless signals to pass through. However Babblers superior technology allowed us to maintain contact with the Babbler during the whole trip.

A gateway providing wireless connectivity was installed in the ship’s bridge.
For more information on how to get insight into the integrity of your shipments: please contact us at info@babbler.io.
